Amazon’s Fire TVs & Prime Video Are Getting A Massive AI Upgrade

Today Amazon has announced a groundbreaking AI-powered capability for Fire TV devices that allows viewers to instantly jump to any specific movie scene on Prime Video simply by describing it naturally to Alexa+. The new feature eliminates the need for manual searching or tedious fast-forwarding, marking a significant leap in how users interact with streaming content.

Rolled out today across Fire TV devices, the innovation enables users to vocalize a memorable moment, character action, or even a famous line, and the system transports them directly to that exact point in the film within seconds. The technology works with thousands of movie titles available on Prime Video, drawing on an index of tens of thousands of individual scenes. Whether recalling the chaotic card scene in Love Actually, the boulder chase in Raiders of the Lost Ark, or the moment in Air when Deloris Jordan delivers her iconic line about her son’s shoes, the AI interprets the description with remarkable accuracy.

Behind the scenes, the capability combines multiple advanced systems. Alexa+ first identifies the intended movie—even when the title is not mentioned—then leverages Prime Video’s X-Ray metadata, closed-caption transcripts, and visual frame analysis to pinpoint the precise timestamp. The entire process is powered by Amazon Bedrock, utilizing large language models such as Amazon Nova and Anthropic’s Claude to understand conversational requests the way a human friend would.

The feature arrives as part of Amazon’s broader push to make entertainment discovery and navigation frictionless on Fire TV. By speaking casually about a scene—mentioning actors, locations, actions, or dialogue—the viewer bypasses traditional menus and scrub bars entirely. Early examples highlighted by the company include jumping to Santa’s aerial flight over the city in the recent holiday action-comedy Red One, the Ozdust Ballroom sequence in Wicked, or the tense basement exchange in Die Hard when John McClane utters his memorable invitation to his adversaries.

Availability is tied to Prime Video content that is either included with a Prime membership or has been rented or purchased through the service. Amazon has confirmed plans to rapidly expand the library, with additional movies and, in the near future, television episodes set to receive the same scene-level indexing.

This launch builds on Fire TV’s expanding suite of generative AI tools. Alexa+ already delivers highly personalized recommendations across multiple streaming platforms, including Netflix and HBO Max, by learning individual household tastes and subscription catalogs. During playback, it can surface actor filmographies, soundtrack details, or trivia without forcing viewers to pick up a second screen. The same intelligence now extends to live sports, providing real-time scores, player statistics, and highlight reels from services like Prime Video, Sling TV, DIRECTV, and Fubo.

The update is live now on compatible Fire TV devices in the United States, with international rollout expected to follow in the coming months.
