Amazon’s Fire TV Maybe Adding TV Tuner Support…

Fire AntennaAmazon’s Fire TV has for some time now been sold as a bundle with an antenna, leaving many to wonder why as the Fire TV cannot use it. Now we may know why…

Elias over at AFTVnews has continue his breakdown the new 5.2.1.0 software update for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick and in that he made a big find. “I noticed that Amazon had added Linux software libraries necessary to support TV tuners. I initially dismissed it because I assumed it was part of the Android core that Fire OS uses, since Android TV is gaining ground as the operating system for TVs and therefore needs to support tuners. However, now I’m starting to believe the Fire TV may actually be gaining TV tuner support in the future.” Said Elias over on AFTVnews.com

There are two possible reasons why Amazon would add tuner support to the Fire TV. First it’s possible the Fire TV will support a USB Tuner similar to the ones made for the Xbox One. Second and more likely is a TV with a built in Fire TV similar to the Roku TVs.

Right now we have no idea when or exactly how this new software will be used but it is in the new Fire TV 5.2.1.0 software update so we are likely going to see a big announcement from Amazon soon.
