Amazon’s CEO Addresses the Future of Amazon Video on the Apple TV

AppleTVAmazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos was speaking at Re/code’s and addressed one of the biggest questions about Amazon Video… When is Amazon Video coming to the Apple TV, one of the last big streaming players to not have access to Amazon Video with a native app.

“[Y]ou can always get the video player on the device,” Bezos told The Verge, adding that getting “acceptable business terms” is another story. When asked whether Apple’s customary 30 percent take of all App Store purchases is a factor in negotiations, Bezos said that “private business discussions should stay private.”

This is likely the same reason Android TV also does not have a native app in the Android Play Store.

Hopes have gone up and down about Amazon Video on the Apple TV since the Apple TV came out in 2015. Amazon has gone as far as to even pull all streaming players that do not support Amazon Video apps from their Amazon store including the Chromecast, most Android TV players and the Apple TV.

At this time, it sounds like Amazon and Apple are still in talks or at least the option is there, but someone needs to blink in order for the Apple TV to get an Amazon Video App. That could mean Amazon agreeing to give up 30% of every sale (a hard move when you are dealing with thin profit margins already) or Apple agreeing to take less (again a hard move to give up the profit of selling the content in iTunes).

Only time will tell if Amazon or Apple will cave.
