Amazon Is Working on a Single Sign-On Option For the Fire TV

Ever wish you could sign in once with your Sling TV, PlayStation Vue, or DIRECTV NOW account and have it work across all of your network apps at once? Apple has an option for this on the Apple TV, but now it seems that Amazon is about to do the same.

According to a report from AFTVnews.com, Amazon’s latest software update has some hidden features. The big one being a single sign-on option for the Fire TV.

What exactly will single sign-on do? You will be able to log in once, and the Fire TV will use your info to log into any apps that support your service. For example, DIRECTV NOW subscribers would be signed into both WatchESPN and Fox Sports Go along with a host of other apps.

This will remove one of the biggest headaches of cord cutting: the need to keep re logging in to app after app.

Now just like the Apple TV version, apps and services such as Sling TV, PlayStation Vue, and DIRECTV NOW to name a few will need to agree to allow Amazon to enable support. Hopefully they jump on board and help make cord cutting easy.

There has been no official announcement about the new Fire TV feature. For now we will have to wait to find out what apps will support the feature and when it will launch.
