Amazon Is Updating the Fire TV & Fire Stick

It seems that owners of the Fire TV and Fire Stick from Amazon will soon have a new update. Yesterday AFTVnews noticed that a new version of the Fire TV OS 5.2.5.1 started to roll out to both first and second gen Fire TVs and Fire Sticks.

You likely won’t notice the change unless you are looking for it. The update mostly fixes back end issues. Unlike the 5.2.4.1 update back in April that brought the new home screen to the first gen Fire TVs, this one seems to be fixing some bugs.

Though this update could be the reason DIRECTV NOW subscribers had issues on Friday. At about the same time Amazon updated the Fire TV, AT&T updated DIRECTV NOW on the Fire TV. Users of the live TV streaming service quickly reported major issues with the new update. This was likely caused by some unknown issue between the new Fire TV OS and the DIRECTV NOW update.

Not all Fire TVs and Fire Sticks have received the new update yet. Amazon often likes to roll out the updates over a few weeks to find any possible issues before everyone gets the update.
