Amazon is in Talks to Live Stream NBA, MLB, NFL & Others Games

Orioles-Tigers-BaseballAccording to sources close to the talks Amazon has held talks with the NBA, MLB and NFL and others to stream live sports. This comes form a report over at the The Wall Street Journal that was posted on Monday.

According to sources at least some during the talks, Amazon has proposed a premium, exclusive sports package as part of its Amazon Prime subscription service. The Wall Street Journal has also reported that Amazon has even looked to foreign sports like cricket, and has asked traditional broadcasters like Disney and Univision for rights to games they choose not to air.

It sounds like at least some leagues, including the NBA are interested in a deal. Amazon has floated the idea of creating an exclusive premium sports package available as a add on to its Amazon Prime program. Amazon is hopping such a package could attract new members to the $99-a-year Prime program, as well as to a “skinny bundle” of live online channels that Amazon is also pursuing.

This also seems to be a effort to take on Sling TV and PlayStation Vue in the market of live TV. Yet this seems to be more focused on live events vs showing live TV channels.
