Amazon Starts Updating First Gen Fire TVs & Fire Sticks

Do you own a first generation Fire TV, and have you been waiting for the new Fire TV user interface? We have good news and bad news for you.

This week Amazon started to roll out Fire OS 5.2.1.2 (562254320) to first generation Fire TV and Fire Stick devices; however, the brand-new Fire TV user interface that many love on the second generation Fire TVs and Fire Stick devices is not included in this update.

AFTVNews first reported that first generation devices are receiving the new update that second generation devices received a few weeks ago. Amazon still says that all Fire TVs and Fire Sticks will receive the new Fire TV user interface but first generation owners will have to wait longer to get access.

Amazon’s Statement on The New Fire TV & Fire Stick OS

Coming later this year, a free software update for Fire TV will give customers a new OS. Fire TV will present a cinematic experience, offering video trailers and content screenshots to help customers access the content they want more quickly—without the need to open and close multiple apps. Finding and enjoying apps and games will be simplified with support for a customizable apps list on the home screen. Accessibility improvements will also be included, allowing customers to use Fire TV and any compatible apps with the VoiceView screen reader. These features will be available for all Fire TV customers as a free, over-the-air update, starting with the new Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote and latest generation Fire TV later this year.

Here is our look at the new Fire TV user interface.
