Amazon Prime Video Scores Its First No. 1 Spot on Nielsen’s Streaming Chart With ‘Coming 2 America’

Well, Amazon Prime Video has finally done it. On a streaming chart consistently dominated by Netflix, Prime Video has managed to secure the No. 1 spot on Nielsen’s weekly top streaming chart thanks to Coming 2 America.

The sequel to the classic Eddie Murphy original pulled in 1,413 million minutes of viewing time, making it the most-viewed streaming title overall for the week ending March 7. Seeing Amazon up on the list was a refreshing change from all the Netflix and Disney+ domination we’ve become used to seeing. As far as movies go, the next in line were Netflix’s Bigfoot Family and I Care A Lot which tied with 363 million minutes.

In the realm of original streaming shows, Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia remained in the No.1 spot with viewers watching 1,161 million minutes across its 10 episodes. The series has been hugely popular for the streamer and it would be a surprise if it wasn’t picked up for another season, especially with the cliffhanger ending season 1 left viewers with.

Disney+’s WandaVision came in second with 924 million minutes, followed by Netflix’s true-crime documentary mini-series Murder Among the Mormons.

Netflix made a clean sweep with longtime favorites Criminal Minds and Grey’s Anatomy topping the acquired TV shows chart, with NBC’s Good Girls, NCIS, and the award-winning Schitt’s Creek also ranking high on the list.
