Amazon Prime Video is Working on a Shuffle Feature

Amazon is bringing a shuffle button to Prime Video, allow users to choose a series and play a random episode. Android Police first spotted the feature on Android devices.

The feature can be used by viewers who know what show they want to watch but don’t care about watching in any specific order. Shuffling episodes seems ideal for anyone who has a favorite sitcom that they like to play in the background while doing other things around the house. However, as Android Police points out, Amazon’s shuffle feature can only be used after choosing a season of a show, limiting its usefulness.

Amazon Prime isn’t the only service testing out a shuffle feature. After several tests and different names, Netflix finally confirmed early this year that an official shuffle feature will be coming to the streamer.

“It’s really working for us where our members can basically indicate to us that they just want to skip browsing entirely, click one button and we’ll pick a title for them just to instantly play,” said Greg Peters, COO and chief product officer, describing the feature during the Netflix Q4 call in January.

Unlike the Prime shuffle button discovered by Android Police, Netflix will offer titles from the entire content library, based on previously watched content and viewing preferences.
