Amazon Prime Video is The Most Downloaded Apple TV New App Ever

Recently Amazon released their long-awaited Amazon Prime Video app for the Apple TV and now it is breaking records.

Update: Apple has not updated their story to say the Amazon Prime Video was the most downloaded app at launch not ever.

It was first reported by BestAppleTV.com that Amazon’s Prime Video app was the most downloaded Apple TV app ever. Later sites like Tech Crunch confirmed this with sources close to the company.

It also seems that the Apple TV was not the only place that saw a big uptick in Amazon Prime Video downloads. According to Tech Crunch, the Amazon Prime Video app on iOS saw over 550,000 downloads during the week of December 3rd.

“There is nothing that excites us more than delighting our customers, and we are thrilled for them to stream Prime Video on Apple TV,” said Mark Eamer, Vice President of Prime Video. “The app arrives just in time for the highly anticipated new season of The Grand Tour, which launches on December 8th, and Prime Video members streaming on the Apple TV 4K will have the exceptional viewing experience of 4K HDR.”

Here are the Version 5.0 release notes:

• Watch on your Apple TV directly by downloading the separate tvOS app (requires Apple TV 3rd generation or later).
• Universal Search now supported – search for Prime videos using iOS search (US, CA, AU, NO, & SE only).
• iPhone X support.
