“The Seattle-based company this week decided to hold its annual Prime Day event in September, according to people familiar with the matter,” Wall Street Journal reported this Thursday morning.
The decision to move the Prime Day promotion was made due to coronavirus concerns. By pushing back the date from early summer fall, the e-commerce site will have more time to prepare for the massive amount of orders coming in and shipments going out, the sources say.
Prime Day normally takes place in July. Last year, Amazon announced that Prime Day sales had outperformed Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined, so it isn’t surprising to see the company pushing back the date of the sale to better prepare.
Amazon has had to modify its shipping policies to better meet customer needs during coronavirus. While the company has continued to ship around the country, there have been delays in delivery times for non-essential items. With 2 day shipping being a major draw of Prime Day, in addition to the huge sales, it’s not surprising that Amazon is reportedly opting to wait until those fast shipping times can be restored.
Previous Prime Day deals for cord cutters have included deep discounts on Fire TVs and Fire TV devices, up to 30% off of Roku devices, deals on Alexa enabled smart home devices and more.
