Amazon Plans to Make Artificial Diamonds to Speed Up The Internet

Amazon

Amazon, for years, has looked at how to make services work faster and have the internet speed up. Now Amazon has a new idea, and they need diamonds to do it. So now Amazon has established a new research collaboration with the mining company, De Beers Group, aiming to develop artificial diamonds for quantum networking.

With this new partnership, De Beers’ Element Six will work with Amazon Web Services (AWS) Centre for quantum networking to make artificial diamonds. The hope is these diamonds can be used in Quantum repeaters to speed up servers and the Internet.

These new artificial diamonds will be used in quantum repeaters that function as amplifiers. These repeaters can be used to speed up the internet vs. older standard repeaters. Hopefully, someday resulting in faster servers and faster internet experiance.

AWS could eventually end up using quantum repeaters in its networks to replace older, slower repeaters. Amazon owns and handles a huge portion of the world’s processing and data storage thanks to its AWS servers. Having faster servers will help them beat out competitors like Microsoft and Google. Faster servers will also help a long list of websites and services become faster.

With this partnership, Amazon is hoping to use De Beers’ Element Six facility in Oregon, which is reportedly capable of producing up to two million pieces of the specialized diamonds annually.
