Amazon Plans to Become More Selective with Amazon Channels

Last week The Information reported that Amazon plans to become more selective in what they offer on their Amazon Channels service. Amazon Channels currently allows Amazon Prime members to subscribe to over 200 streaming services including HBO NOW and CBS All Access. Going forward Amazon is going to be pickier on who they accept into Amazon Channels.

This does not mean Amazon plans to back down on Amazon Channels. According to reports, Amazon plans to continue to focus on the Amazon Channels service but wants to ensure they are offering high-quality content.

It is estimated by BMO Capital Markets that Channels generated $1.7 billion in revenue for Amazon last year, more than double what it generated in 2017. Right now, both Roku and Apple are busy launching their own Amazon Channels-like services. Others like Sling TV already have had an Amazon Channels competitor for some time.

These companies are hoping that they can be the service that will make managing multiple subscriptions easy. At the same time, they hope to get a cut of the growing streaming revenues by processing the transactions.
