Amazon Now Auto Plays Promos When You Open the Amazon Video App

Have you noticed a promo play when you open the Amazon Video app on Android recently? You are not alone. Amazon seems to have started promoting their Amazon originals when you launch the video app.

Recently if you open the Amazon Video app on Android devices, such as the Nvidia Shield Tablet, you may have been greeted by a video promotion for the Amazon Original, “The Grand Tour.” The video in our test auto played with audio turned on but was skippable.

This is not the first time Amazon has used promos to promote their original shows. For some time now Amazon has been testing pre- and post-roll video promos when you try to watch a show on Amazon Prime. Yet from our understanding, this is the first time we have seen a video auto play when you launch the app.

Amazon is not alone in this testing. Services such as Netflix have been testing out the idea for some time now, everything from promos playing before and after the videos and trailers playing inside the menu screen. Yet for a service like Amazon Video this may be the first time the promo has played at the launch of the app.
