Amazon Moves to Take on Sellers of “Fully Loaded” Fire TVs and Fire Sticks

fire-stick-2Amazon has been blocking resellers of the Fire TV and Fire Stick for some time now. It has become a profitable market for some to buy Fire TVs and Fire Sticks in mass, load them up with piracy apps, and resell them.

Earlier this year Amazon moved to limit the number of Fire TVs and Fire Sticks one could buy, and now they are trying something new.

This week users with a large number of Fire TVs attached to their Amazon account woke up to find them all deregistered. Amazon seems to have done this in an effort to disrupt resellers who often attach their devices to a dummy Amazon account, load them with piracy apps, and resell them still attached to the dummy account.

AFTVnews.com first reported on this and was contacted by others who had similar problems. Amazon PR has declined to comment at the time of our post, but this move is a clear effort to block piracy.

The move impacts a large number of fully loaded players as Amazon strives to get ahead of the reputation that the Fire TV is an ideal player for piracy.

There have even been rumors that the new Fire TV OS, coming out later this year, will be even more aggressive in blocking piracy.
