Amazon May Have Just Mistakenly Approved a Piracy Service for the Official Fire TV Store

Last week a new service called TV Karaken showed up in the official Fire TV store. This new service promises a ton of content including NFL Sunday Ticket, MLB Extra Innings, and NBA League Pass all for just $25 a month.

Update: It looks like Amazon just pulled the app from their store. Here is what the listing looked like before it was pulled:

For $25 it is promising over 500 live channels including pay-per-view events, locals, and premium channels such as Showtime, HBO, and more. It doesn’t stop there because it also promises channels from Canada and the United Kingdom for this low price. And you get a large list of on-demand movies.

AFTVnews first spotted this service and like them we cannot find many details about it. According to AFTVnews, “it’s hard to believe that what they offer is legal.”

We can not verify this but a group that sells jailbroken Amazon Fire TV Sticks is claiming to be the group behind the service:

We would have to assume that Amazon has some type of review process to spot legal vs illegal services. I know from talking to other live TV services that the review process at Roku and at Apple TV are extensive—often requiring smaller live TV services to show contracts with content providers to prove their legal status.

For the average consumer it is becoming more difficult to spot piracy because the sites often now charge and may even offer customer support. If it wasn’t for the way too good to be true part it would be difficult to spot the difference between DIRECTV NOW, Sling TV, and PlayStation Vue.
