Amazon Just Cut The Price of 4K Movies in Response to Apple

Apple a few weeks back started a price war when they announced they would sell 4K movies for the same price as HD. Well, Amazon is not about to be outdone and is now sell 4K movies starting at about $5 each on Amazon Video.

According to a report from The Verge Amazon has cut the price of their 4K movies that in the past could have cost as much as $30. Now you can find 4K movies on Amazon as cheap as $5, with newer releases in the $7 to $19 price range.

That now leaves services like Vudu and Google Play looking very price with their prices still int he $30 range. (As of the last time we checked.) It will be interesting to see how Walmart’s Vudu service and Google Play respond to the new price war.

Amazon is not stopping there as they are about to launch their own new line of 4K Fire TV streaming players.

The 4K Fire TV Stick

The new Fire TV Stick (I use the term loosely) is a lot like a Chromecast with a permanently attached HDMI cable. This new stick will not replace the current HD 2nd gen Fire TV stick but will be a new middle point in the Fire TV lineup.

There will only be an attached HDMI cable and a micro USB port for power on this Fire TV.

The 3rd Generation Fire TV Box

The 3rd gen Fire TV box is a different device from the current 2nd gen Fire TV. Gone is the familiar square Fire TV box. This new Fire TV has 4K HD and the look of an oversized Amazon Dot.

The new 3rd gen Fire TV has a built-in Amazon Alexa with all the buttons of an Amazon Echo Dot and a built-in speaker for voice commands. There is even an IR emitter that will likely work similarly to a Harmony Hub allowing the Fire TV to control other devices.
