Amazon Just Announced a New Fire TV & New Echo Devices

Family Watching Television Together Arguing Over Remote Today Amazon held a last-minute surprise event to announce their new products.

This is breaking news and we will update this post as we learn more.

New Fire TV

The 4K Fire TV Stick

The new Fire TV Stick (I use the term loosely) is a lot like a Chromecast with a permanently attached HDMI cable. This new stick will not replace the current HD 2^nd gen Fire TV stick but will be a new middle point in the Fire TV lineup.

There will only be an attached HDMI cable and a micro USB port for power on this Fire TV.

802.11ac WiFi

The new 4K Fire TV Stick will cost $69.99 and can be bundled with an Echo Dot for $80. Will be available for pre-order later today. (You can also bundle the older HD Fire Stick with the Echo Dot for $60.)

The Fire TV will go on sale October 25th.

Update: Amazon did not announce the new 4K HDR box that was pictured in the recent leak from Amazon. That will likely come at a later event this year.

Amazon Echo

The new Amazon Echo is shorter and has a fabric cover. It will offer better sound and cost just $99. You can also make phone calls now with the Echo Connect a device that will connect your Echo to your phone and allow 911 calls and calls to your family and friends. The Echo Connect will cost $34.99.

There is also an Echo Plus with a smart home hub built into the device to control all of your smart home devices. The Echo Plus will start at $149.99.

Amazon also announced that Google has pulled the YouTube app from the Echo Show. Amazon says there was no warning and no technical reason for removing the app from the Amazon Echo Show.

The Echo Spot is a smaller version of the Echo Show. Similar to the Echo Dot but with a 2.5-inch screen.
