Amazon Jumps Hulu To Become Third Largest Video Site

Today Amazon announced that its Amazon Instant service has surpassed Hulu to become the third largest video site in America. Now only Netflix and YouTube lead Amazon in video distribution. This jump comes after Amazon Instant sees a 350% jump since 2011.

This announcement comes just a week after they released the line up for their second slate of original shows. Amazon sees a future in online video and wants to be a leader of the market to not only deliver the video but sell the boxes that will bring it to your TV with Fire TV.

Amazon move into third place was achieved with out offering a android app for its Amazon Instant service. Amazon has been aggressive in offering apps for multiple platforms and recently bringing their apps to IOS. Sadly for Android fans they have yet to offer a app for their devices.

If Amazon wants to over take Netflix they will need to make the move and offer their services on Android. With Androids explosive growth the absence is clear sign of tension between Google and Amazon online video business.

Amazons with holding of Amazon instant could be a move to drive customers into their Kindle Fire tablets and rumored Amazon Phone to be released latter this year.

Whatever their mobile plan the growth seen in Amazon Instant is a positive sign for the cord cutting moment. Well Amazon has not had the break out success Netflix has seen with their original content they are clearly financially dedicated to creating high quality original programming for their Amazon Instant platform.
