Amazon Is Surveying Users about What News They Watch

Amazon wants to know about your news viewing habits. Last night Amazon started to send out surveys to account owners asking you to “Take our survey about how you watch the news.”

In the survey, Amazon asked Fire TV owners what news services they watch on their Fire TVs and how they access it. Do you use streaming services like DIRECTV NOW, Hulu, etc., or do you use apps to access your news?

Here is the welcome email:

We don’t know what Amazon is planning, but this is likely part of an Amazon Channels push. Amazon is likely hoping to get more news services to join their Amazon Channels service.

Here are a few of the questions asked:

Amazon has recently been adding more services such as CBS All Access to their Amazon Channels service. With Amazon Channels, you can use Amazon to manage your subscription to services such as HBO NOW and CBS All Access.

It is possible with services like Fox News launching a subscription news service that Amazon is hoping to get news groups to add their news programs to Amazon Channels. Or it is possible that Amazon is hoping to launch their own news service. Amazon’s CEO does also own the Washington Post and could use the Washington Post’s resources to launch a news service.

As best we can tell Amazon still has no plans to launch a live TV streaming service. All reports say Amazon has abandoned plans to take on Sling TV, DIRECTV NOW, etc. Instead, they want to promote Amazon Channels as more of an à la carte TV service.
