Amazon is Reportedly Close to Buying The Yes Sports Network

Sports Fans Watching TVAs part of the deal to get Department of Justice approval for the Disney and Fox merger there was a requirement that the Fox Regional Sports Networks (RSNs) would be sold off. According to the deal, when Disney closes on the sale of most of 21st Century Fox they would sell off the regional sports networks currently running under the Fox Sports name. There was a fear that Disney owning ESPN, ABC, and the Fox regional sports networks would give them to much power in the world of sports.

Now it is being reported that Amazon is ready to sign a deal to buy the YES Network according to sources that talked with the New York Post. It had been previously reported that YouTube was also interested but as of today there are no reports of YouTube bidding on FOX RSNs.

Update: It is now being reported that the Yankees will be the new majority owner of Yes Network with Amazon being a minority investor. We will now have to wait and see what is officially announced at a later date.

In total FOX RSNs and Yes Network air 44 professional teams including ones from the MLB, NBA, and NHL. The company that buys FOX’s RSNs will have great power over the future of streaming sports going forward.
