Amazon is Releasing a Sling TV Competitor on the Fire TV

Fire TV 36It has been reported for some time that Amazon was working on a live streaming service for their Fire TV. Now we have firm evidence they are close to releasing their Sling TV competitor. Deep in the new 5.2.1.0 software update for the Amazon Fire TV AFTVnews has found evidence of the new streaming service.

“Deep in the code are newly added buttons and styling which mark videos in the main Fire TV interface as “On Now” with accompanying “Watch Live” buttons. Additionally, there are new references in the code to “Live Stations” and “Live Channels” which seem to indicate that, when the functionality arrives, it won’t just be individual live shows, but rather, continuous live programming” said Elias Saba from AFTV news.

Amazon has reportedly been talking to major media companies like CBS and NBC for awhile, but this is the first firm evidence of this unannounced streaming service.

For now, we know little about the service, but it looks to focus on live shows and channels. With this update it looks like the service will be built into the Amazon store and as you look for shows you will be able to watch them live and as Elias reports he did not find any program guide or other new menu system.
