Amazon Is Looking to Team Up with Sony & Paramount to Make Movies

For some time now, Amazon has been looking to create new original programming. Now, according to a new report from Bloomberg, they are looking to team up with Sony and Paramount to expand their original movies.

Currently Paramount has a deal with Epix for their content, but reports suggest they are unlikely to renew that distribution deal. That would give Amazon an opportunity to not only make movies with Paramount but also possibly gain access to their back catalog of movies.

Sony is reportedly in fifth place at the box office. A deal with Amazon could be a win-win for both as Sony looks for a way to jumpstart their movies. Sony’s current streaming rights deals with Epix will be ending in 2021, and Amazon may also be hoping to get back catalog access to Sony movies.

Jennifer Salke, the new studio head at Amazon, has recently stressed that Amazon will not be making movies in volume but will instead focus on high-quality production, however, Amazon is said to be spending $5 billion on new video programming in 2018.
