Amazon Introduces Alexa Routines for Fire TV

Amazon announced today that it will bring Alexa routines to Fire TV devices. Alexa Routines is a feature that allows users to create Alexa command “bundles,” or personalized groups of commands that can be executed together with one voice command.

Starting today, Amazon customers can include Fire TV commands in their Alexa Routines. Amazon offers an example of how it works. You can create a Routine so that when someone in your house says “Alexa, I’m getting a snack,” Alexa will pause your Fire TV content and turn on your smart lights. Another Routine can be created so that when someone says “Alexa, I’m back,” Alexa can say “OK – now back to your show,” turn off your smart lights, and resume playing content.

According to a survey conducted by Morning Consult with Amazon, 75% of respondents in the. US say they pause their content at least once per night to grab a snack and 32% report falling asleep while watching TV or a movie more in 2020 than last year.
