Amazon Hires a Former ESPN Executive to Run Their Sports Efforts

Yesterday Amazon announced that they have hired former ESPN Executive Vice President Marie Donoghue. She will take over as president of Amazon Sports Video and manage all their sports efforts including their Thursday Night NFL Football games.

Donoghue spent 17 years with ESPN and played a large part in their 30 for 30 documentary series. She was also the executive vice president on the O.J. Made in America Oscar-winning documentary in 2016.

Donoghue will join Jim Delorenzo, who was hired in early 2016 and is still listed as Head of Sports for Amazon Video. Exactly how that relationship will work is unknown.

Amazon has made it clear that sports will be a big part of their future. There has even been reports that Amazon is looking at buying the FOX Regional Sports Networks from Disney after they close on their FOX merger.

On top of their live sports efforts, Amazon also has a growing list of sports documentaries in their All or Nothing series.
