Amazon & Google Are in Talks to Keep YouTube on The Fire TV

Recently Google announced that they plan to pull their YouTube app from the Fire TV in the latest fight between the two companies. Now The Verge has reported that a Google spokesperson has told them that they are in “productive discussions” with the hopes of reaching “an agreement for the benefit of our mutual customers.”

Google did not stop at removing their YouTube app from Amazon devices, they are also pulling their Nest system from the Amazon online store. This means you will no longer be able to buy Nest products on Amazon soon.

The Echo Show app will stop working today and as of right now the Fire TV version will stop working January 1st 2018. Fire TV owners will start seeing warnings showing up today notifying them that the app will be pulled on January 1st 2018.

So far no deal has been made but it is good news that the two companies are in talks.

Google has for some time offered limited versions of the YouTube app on the Fire TV. Google also left the Fire TV off the list of streaming players to be supported by YouTube TV in what is likely a continuation of their fight with Amazon. The lack of YouTube and YouTube TV will leave the Fire TV short a major app that other devices like Roku, Apple TV, and Android TV all offer.
