Amazon Freevee to Release Two New Free Judge Judy Spinoff Series

Back in May, Amazon Freevee renewed Judy Justice for an additional two seasons. The sharp-witted, no sass tolerating Judge jumped from daytime television to join Amazon’s free streaming service Freevee and the series has seen much success since the series premiere. Judy Justice gained a lot of attention, tallying up 150 million hours watched and topping the list as Freevee’s most popular original program.

Now, as reported by The New York Times, Freevee is gearing up to launch two spinoff shows in addition to an unscripted series that has yet to be revealed. “Some people inside Amazon Studios… have been jokingly referring to Judge Sheindlin’s programming expansion as the Judy-Verse.”

“Judge Sheindlin is a brand. It’s not as if we are saying we want 20 other court shows. But we are always listening when she’s pitching something,” said Lauren Anderson, Amazon’s Head of Original Programming for Freevee. Audiences for decades have learned the same lesson – when Judge Judy speaks, you give her the floor and listen.

Last week, Freevee added Tribunal Justice, featuring three additional legal professionals, including Adam Levy, Judge Judy Sheindlin’s son. This is not the first of her family to join the “Judy-Verse”. Judy Justice features her granddaughter, Sarah Rose, as one of the law clerks.

Tribunal Justice is already seeing a growing audience, proving that Judge Judy’s departure from daytime television only empowered her popularity. You can catch new episodes every weekday until the season finale in December.

Another Judge Judy-centric series coming soon is Justice on Trial, which will take a look at “landmark court cases” such as the 1925 Scopes trial when a science teacher stood trial for daring to teach his students about evolution. And who is slated to be one of the featured criminal defense lawyers? You guessed it! Another member of Judge Judy’s family, son-in-law Daniel T. Mentzer.

Each hour-long episode will focus on a specific case as well as feature re-enactments, highlighting past cases that are still relevant to ongoing issues today.

As for the next show joining the Judy-Verse, neither Amazon, Freevee nor the Judge herself are loosening their tongues about any details. All we know for sure is the series will premiere in 2024.
