Amazon Confirms Prime Day Delay

Amazon

Prime Day, Amazon’s summer sales holiday, has become a major event since launching in 2015. For cord cutters, the event is an opportunity to upgrade to a new streaming device or smart TV, or to invest in some new additions to a streaming setup like surround sound speakers or a soundbar.

Rumors have been swirling that the date of this year’s Prime Day would be pushed back due to coronavirus since April. In May, Wall Street Journal reported that Prime Day would be moved to September, according to a source. While the company already missed the normal mid-July timing of the event, Amazon hasn’t commented on the rumors until today.

TechCrunch reports that Amazon has confirmed a Prime Day delay in the US to later this year. Prime Day in India will take place August 6-7 with dates in other regions to be announced later.

“This year we’ll be holding Prime Day later than usual, while ensuring the safety of our employees and supporting our customers and selling partners. We are excited Prime members in India will see savings on August 6-7, and that members all around the world will experience Prime Day later this year. We look forward to sharing more details soon,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement.
