This announcement on September 5 said that the NWHL signed a 3-year contract with Twitch, owned by Amazon, giving the platform streaming rights starting this season. The rights include all games in the season, including playoff games and special events.
One interesting part of the deal is that it marks the first time that the NWHL will receive a broadcasting rights fee. Revenue from the deal will be shared with players in the league.
“The official announcement of our partnership with Twitch makes this a historic day for the NWHL, our players, fans and everyone who supports the advancement of women’s hockey,” commissioner Dani Rylan said in a release. “The live broadcasts of every single NWHL game on Twitch will allow us to both foster and grow our current community while introducing professional hockey to a new audience for the first time.”
Twitch will not only stream the games but will serve as a platform for the NWHL community. NWHL players, broadcasters, and others will participate in live chats and interact with fans.
