ACE Claims a Major Victory in The Fight on IPTV By Shutting Down Openload & Streamango

Today The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) announced that they have secured a major victory in the fight on privacy by shutting down file-sharing services Openload & Streamango. TorrentFreak was the first site to report the outages and ACE has now confirmed they are behind the efforts to shut down Openload and Streamango. According to ACE Openload content accounted for 72% of the top 50 illegal video streaming and linking sites in the world. ACE went on to say that Openload at one point had more than 1,000 services with more traffic than Hulu.

“ACE is committed to protecting the legal marketplace for creative content through a range of legal and operational tactics—and this is a great step toward that goal,” said Charles Rivkin, Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association and Chair of ACE said in a statement sent to Cord Cutters News. “For years, these two pirate operations failed to take meaningful action to stop the dissemination of the illegal content, harming creators and misleading consumers.”

ACE said that the operator behind both Openload and Streamango is now required to stop operating the services and will pay a significant damage award to ACE.

ACE members include Amazon, AMC Networks, BBC Worldwide, Bell Canada and Bell Media, Canal+ Group, CBS Corporation, Channel 5, Constantin Film, Discovery, Foxtel, Grupo Globo, HBO, Hulu, Lionsgate, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), Millennium Media, NBCUniversal, Netflix, Paramount Pictures, SF Studios, Sky, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Star India, Studio Babelsberg, STX Entertainment, Telefe, Telemundo, Televisa, Univision Communications Inc., Village Roadshow, The Walt Disney Company, and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.

This is just one more in a growing number of services that have recently shut down. ACE has made it clear they are only now getting started as they move to crack down on piracy.
