A Short Version of ’60 Minutes’ is Coming to Quibi

Quibi is getting a condensed version of the popular CBS news program ’60 Minutes.’ But instead of an hour, the show will be just 6 minutes long to fit in with Quibi’s “quick bites” approach of content 10 minutes or shorter. ‘60 in 6‘ was originally set to debut on Quibi in April but has been postponed. The new launch date is June 14, 2020.

“This is a perfect opportunity to bring ’60 Minutes’ style of storytelling, in-depth reporting and investigative journalism to a new audience,” said Bill Owens, the executive producer of the series, in a statement. “We are excited to launch ’60 In 6′, as our digital footprint is more important than ever.”

CBS is taking this as the chance to reach a younger demographic audience who may not be interested in the traditional, full-length show, but are more likely to view something in a mobile format.

“It’s an opportunity for us to get our journalism in front of people who probably see ’60 Minutes’ when they are giving their mother and father a kiss and going out to see their friends,” Owen’s said. “Let’s reach them where they are.”

So while CBS’ ’60 Minutes’ season is coming to an end on regular TV programming, ’60 in 6′ is just getting started. Viewers can get a preview of what to expect for the short form, mobile version on Sunday’s last episode of ’60 Minutes’ on CBS.

Quibi’s version features a dedicated team of news correspondents comprised of Enrique Acevedo, Seth Doane, Wesley Lowery and Laurie Segall.
