A New TV Network For Women Launching Next Year

Watching tv and using remote control

Prime Women Media is an online lifestyle community for women and announced yesterday it will be launching a 24/7 television network early next year, all founded and featuring women over 50. The network will present entertaining, inspiring, and informative shows designed with women in their prime in mind.

In the U.S., 20 percent of women are over 50 yet they only appear in 8 percent of all screen time. CEO of Prime Women Media, Dorothy Miller Shore thinks there should be more television programs for women over 50 and has decided to launch a new cable network for all 63 million of them.

“These women, who live in cities, suburbs, and rural areas and have different ethnicities and political affiliations, all face the same issues after 50. They all have been changed by menopause, which brings more than just the loss of childbearing. Many women over 50 face serious mental and physical changes, find their careers waning due to sexism and ageism and feel increasingly invisible in a youth-obsessed culture. Yet we are the most active, ambitious, and influential group of women in a generation,” said Dorothy Miller Shore in a recent announcement.

Along with Valerie Freeman, Jan Fletcher, and 16 other successful female executives and investors, Prime Women Media is ready to branch out into the realm of linear television.

“This demographic is especially appealing to advertisers and to cable and satellite providers. Women over 50 embrace traditional television and love to channel surf. They may have a streaming service, but they are not cord-cutters. They account for 27 percent of all consumer spending. They also generally make household purchase decisions for video entertainment, wifi, mobile phones, and other products and services. Based on our expertise within our digital community, we already know the pressing issues facing women,” said Shore.

Prime Women Media’s content will include women-centric documentaries, reality series, and specials. Shows will focus on topics important to women, including health, fitness, career, finance, and relationships as well as highlight key female leaders and role models.
