A New Sonic the Hedgehog Series is Coming to Netflix

Netflix announced today that a new Sonic the Hedgehog series is coming to the streaming service in 2022. Sonic Prime will be a 24 episode animated series for kids and families.

Geared toward the 6-11 age range, Sonic Prime will keep young viewers engaged with new adventures as Sonic races to save the universe, along with sharing “a journey of self-discovery and redemption.”

“Sonic is a beloved character and holds a special place in everyone’s heart including my own. I spent many hours with the blue blur as a kid and it’s a privilege to be able to bring this character everyone knows and loves on a brand new adventure with Netflix — one that a generation of loyal fans and brand new fans around the world can enjoy,” said Dominique Bazay, Director of Original Animation, Netflix.

The series is following up on the success of the “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie by Paramount Pictures in 2020. The live action film brought in $320 million globally while attracting parents with the nostalgia of the 30 year old video game character, and earning a whole new generation of fans.

While the new series won’t be out until 2022, you can currently watch the 1990s animated series Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog on Netflix and watch the “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie on Amazon Prime with an Epix channel subscription or for $13.99 to own.
