Free TV Networks (FTN) is further capitalizing on the growing popularity of free over-the-air television with the launch of its fourth diginet, BUSTED. Set to debut on March 1, 2025, BUSTED will deliver high-adrenaline, crime-focused programming to a male-skewing audience, according to their press release.
The channel will feature a lineup of popular unscripted series, including COPS Reloaded, Jail, Bounty Tank, Court Cam, Neighborhood Wars, Customer Wars, and World’s Wildest Police Videos. FTN promises “endless thrills” and “vicarious real-life ride-alongs” for viewers seeking action-packed content.
“With riveting unscripted series, BUSTED is the only dedicated broadcast channel that takes audiences on vicarious real-life ride-alongs to witness justice in action,” said Jonathan Katz, President and CEO of Free TV Networks.
This launch comes at a time when the television landscape is undergoing significant shifts. As traditional cable viewership declines and streaming services proliferate, free over-the-air television is experiencing a resurgence. FTN is strategically positioned to capitalize on this trend, offering a compelling alternative for value-conscious consumers who are embracing a combination of antenna usage and streaming.
FTN’s Growing Diginet Portfolio
BUSTED joins FTN’s growing portfolio of diginets, which includes:
- 365BLK: Launched in January 2024, this channel caters to African American viewers with blockbuster movies and hit series.
- OUTLAW: Also launched in January 2024, OUTLAW showcases classic and contemporary Westerns.
- DEFY: Launched in July 2024, DEFY features popular unscripted TV series.
These diginets, along with their corresponding FAST (free ad-supported streaming TV) channels, are available in 90% of US households.
Riding the Wave of Over-the-Air Growth
FTN’s expansion reflects the increasing popularity of over-the-air television. Nielsen data shows that digital broadcast networks increased their total share of viewing by 13% during the 2023/2024 broadcast season. Industry research indicates that nearly one in three US households (approximately 35 million) currently use a digital antenna, with projections estimating this number to surpass 50 million by 2027.
FTN’s strategy of partnering with major content providers like Warner Bros. Discovery and Lionsgate, along with broadcast giants like Gray Media, allows the company to offer a compelling lineup of programming to attract viewers. By combining this content with the accessibility and affordability of over-the-air broadcasting, FTN is well-positioned to capture a significant share of this growing market.
BUSTED is expected to launch with extensive coverage, reaching over 90% of US households through partnerships with major station groups like Scripps, Gray Media, Nexstar, and HC2 Broadcasting. This broad reach, combined with the channel’s targeted programming, could make BUSTED a popular destination for viewers seeking free, action-packed entertainment.
As the cord-cutting trend continues and consumers seek more affordable entertainment options, FTN’s diginets and FAST channels offer a compelling alternative. The launch of BUSTED further strengthens FTN’s position in this evolving market and reinforces the company’s commitment to delivering high-quality, free television to viewers across the United States.
