A New Android TV Box Just Showed Up in FCC Filings

For some time now there has been a question about who would be the next big maker of an Android TV device. Ematic is working on a new Android TV–powered box, according to a new FCC filing spotted by Variety.

The new streaming player includes two USB ports, an SD card slot, an Ethernet port, an HDMI out, and an optical out. The remote comes with quick launch buttons for YouTube, Netflix, and Google Play Store. For now, the code name of the box is the Jetstream, but that name can always change before it hits stores.

With the product only now clearing FCC approval it likely means at the earliest we are looking at a fall or winter 2018 launch date.

For some time now there has been a need for a new Android TV–powered box. Right now, the main Android TV box is the Nvidia Shield. Other devices like the AirTV, Stream+, and Mi box have all done well; however, it has been awhile since a new Android TV player has hit stores.

Hopefully a new player like the Jetstream can keep driving the growth of Android TV forward.
