Over 9,000 Americans Cancel Cable/Satellite TV Every Day

Cutting the cable connection to coax connector illustrating people cancelling cable TV serviceCable companies are busy reporting their subscriber numbers and once again we see a new flood of cord cutters.

According to Evercore ISI analyst Vijay Jayant, who looked at all the reports, about 845,000 Americans canceled cable TV and did not replace the service. Using some quick back of the napkin math, that works out to be over 281,000 a month canceling cable. You could also say just over 9,000 people cancel a traditional pay-TV service every day.

When you look at the same time period in 2016 only 456,000 Americans canceled cable TV.

This once again marks a slow but steady growth in cord cutting as millions of Americans in 2017 ditched a traditional pay-TV provider and became cord cutters. 2018 is already looking very bright as cord cutting picks up even more speed.

There are still a lot of traditional pay-TV subscribers out there. The top 10 cable and satellite providers have over 70,000,000 subscribers. This compares to the 20 million to 25,000 million cord cutters/cord nevers that are out there today. (Depending on who you talk to.)

Now the question is when will cord cutting become bigger than traditional pay TV.
