This week Redzone Broadband in Maine announced that in the first quarter of 2018 they will launch a gigabit fixed wireless Internet in Portland, Maine. Redzone is promising to use parts of the 2.5GHz spectrum and parts of the 5GHz/60GHz spectrum to offer what they call 5GX wireless Internet.
“Redzone’s 5GX with millimeter wave significantly increases fixed wireless broadband speed, while substantially reducing network development time and deployment costs associated with fiber based alternatives, said Jim McKenna, president, Redzone Wireless, LLC. “Redzone is driving innovation in the convergence of licensed and unlicensed spectrum to deliver on the promise of affordable next generation 5G gigabit broadband access for underserved areas of the country.”
The best part is Redzone is promising to offer this service at a price point that will be disruptive.
This is not the first time Redzone has offered wireless Internet. Previously they had offered 100 Mbps service in the University of Maine area. Now they are promising that the 5GX service will offer faster speeds at a better price.
No date or exact pricing has been announced at this time. We will have to wait and see what Redzone does next.
