This will allow Qualcomm to conduct new testing in the immediate vicinity of its buildings and roads within 1 km around the Qualcomm headquarters in San Diego and a Qualcomm building in Bridgewater.

ways never imagined” Qualcomm said in their FCC request form.
Quallcom went on to say that they will conduct “5G R&D tests using prototype base-station (BS) and mobile device (MD) equipment in milli-meter wave bands and is requesting this experimental license to assist it further in developing, validating, and demonstrating this new technology.”
5G internet brings the promise of competition to home internet. Instead of having to run a wire to each house in a town, companies can build a few towers and deliver 5G internet in a fraction of the time. Right now Dish, Charter, Google, AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and others are all starting their roll out of 5G. Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T all plan to start offering 5G to the public by the end of 2018.
Multiple companies have said their goal is to speed up their 5G rollout in 2019 with reports of having the network covering 50% of the United States in 2020.
