5G home internet and 5G internet for mobile is one of the fastest ways high speed internet is coming to millions of Americans. The FCC has announced that it approved $9 billion in new funding to help bring 5G internet to rural Americans.

This is the first step in what could bring 5G home internet to millions who currently lack internet options.

“With the progress we’ve made in mapping broadband service availability, there is no reason to wait to put the 5G Fund to work connecting households and businesses in rural communities across the country,” said FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel. “We are ready to use every tool available to make sure that those who live, work, and travel in rural America have access to advanced, 5G mobile wireless broadband services.

The FCC is starting the process of launching an auction to roll out this $9 billion in funding to different companies to expand their 5G internet service. Once built, companies will be able to offer 5G service, like 5G home internet, to millions who currently have limited options for high speed internet where they live. We are still likely years away from this becoming a reality, but it will help close the digital divide for millions when completed.
