5 Things You Need to Know about Philo

Channel Surfing ManYesterday Viacom and Discovery launched a new live TV streaming service called Philo. This service is a news and sports-free service that includes channels from Scripps, AMC, A+E, Viacom, and Discovery. Subscribers to this new service will get access to 35 networks for $16 a month.

We did a little digging and found 5 things you need to know:

1 Network App Access

Philo does not support any network app log ins at this time. Philo subscribers will only be able to watch content in the Philo app.

A Philo representative did say support for apps such as TLC GO, AMC, and others is on their “roadmap.”

2 Device Support

Philo is supported on Web browsers, Roku, iOS, Android, and Chromecast.

Philo staff have not commented on the possibility of Fire TV, Apple TV, and Android TV support.

3 DVR

Philo offers a 30-day DVR but you are only able to add shows to the DVR not episodes. So once you set up a recording, every episode of that show will be saved for 30 days. There is no way to record just one show.

4 Networks Included

If you want a current list of networks included, you can find it HERE.

Philo does not include any Disney, FOX, CBS, or NBCUniversal-owned networks.

There are also no locals.

5 Number of Streams

Philo comes with three simultaneous streams at once.
