Many new Fire TV owners are unaware of information that will help them get the most out of their Fire TV. So, here are our top 5 tips for new Fire TV and Fire Stick owners.
#1 Change Device Name
Adding content from Amazon.com to your Fire TV can be complicated if you own two or three Fire TVs. Trying to remember if Fire TV #1 is in the living room or in the bedroom and Fire TV #2 is in the kitchen or den can be frustrating. Now Amazon has made it easy to change the name of each Fire TV so you can always remember which device you are adding new apps to.
From any computer, go to your Amazon account page on Amazon.com, then select the Manage Your Content and Devices page, from there choose the Your Devices tab. You can then click on any device (followed by the Edit link) to change its name to something more recognizable.
#2 Amazon’s App Site
Amazon.com has a great page full of new apps for your Fire TV. Also, they often have sales on Fire TV apps and games so make sure to keep an eye on Amazon’s Fire TV app page.
#3 Re-Pair the Remote
If your remote stops working and the problem is not with the batteries, you may need to re-pair your remote. To do this, just hold down the Home button for up to 10 seconds and the remote will try to pair with any Fire TV it finds.
#4 Enable Parental Controls
One of the best features of the Fire TV is its ability to set parental controls. This will stop your kids from making purchases or accessing inappropriate content.
To use parental controls you will first need to create a 5 digit pin for Amazon Video (you can find out how to make an Amazon Pin by going HERE). After you make the pin, you can set it up to be required just for purchases or to access some content.
#5 Cast From YouTube
One of the best little known tips is the ability to cast YouTube videos from your laptop or PC to your Fire TV. You just need both devices to be on the same Wifi network while using Google Chrome as your browser. You will find a casting button at the bottom right of YouTube videos that will allow you to cast it to your Fire TV. This makes using the YouTube app on your Fire TV a lot easier.
