It wasn’t mentioned among the various software and hardware highlights during Apple’s WWDC 2020 keynote, but it looks like 4K YouTube support is indeed coming to Apple TV care of the upcoming tvOS 14 update.

The feature is teased on Apple’s preview page for the operating system upgrade, alongside new picture-in-picture options, audio sharing, and 4K video support via AirPlay.

Apple didn’t spend a whole lot of time during its keynote discussing tvOS, but it did share details about HomeKit integration and expanded gaming controller support. Of course, part of the allure of WWDC is uncovering some of the hidden and/or unannounced features from the company’s various OS updates — whether that’s via preview pages with new hints or developers exploring the new software.

While developers have access to early versions of tvOS 14 starting this week, we’ll likely see an official launch at some point this fall, possibly alongside an updated Apple TV device. At the moment, though, there’s no official word on tvOS 14’s exact release, but for Apple TV 4K owners disappointed by the lack of Ultra HD YouTube support, it looks like you won’t have to wait too much longer.
