Almost Half of All Cord Cutters Exclusively Stream Everything They Watch

Family Enjoying Movie Night At Home TogetherOver the weekend, we posted a survey asking readers about some of their cord cutting habits. One thing we wanted to know was whether you’re still using DVDs, watching movies exclusively through streaming, or a combination of both.

49.7% of the 3000+ readers who responded say that they’re only streaming movies and are no longer using DVDs.

This number isn’t especially surprising, with Best Buy announcing that CDs have become a thing of the past and the stores stopping sales as of last summer.

Are DVDs the next to go? Some are saying that DVDs (along with thumb drives and fax machines) will be obsolete before we know it. With streaming services continuing to grow and companies like Disney making the move to publishing content on streaming platforms, will companies continue to see the value in releasing DVDs?

One interesting fact to keep in mind is that Netflix still has 2.7 million DVD-by-mail subscribers as of this February, according to The Motley Fool. Meanwhile, the world’s last Blockbuster in Bend, Oregon is still signing up members and renting out DVDs every day. Not everyone is ready to fully make the switch to streaming just yet.
