24 Years Ago Today: King of the Hill Celebrates 100th Episode as New Season Nears on Hulu

Twenty-four years ago today, on April 1, 2001, King of the Hill aired its 100th episode, “Hank’s Back Story,” marking a milestone for the animated sitcom that brought the quirky life of Arlen, Texas, to Fox viewers. In the episode from Season 5, Hank Hill (voiced by Mike Judge) grapples with a “gluteal deficiency,” opting for a saline-filled prosthetic butt, while Peggy (Kathy Najimy) and Bobby (Pamela Adlon) navigate their own subplots with typical Mayberry-esque charm. The milestone, which aired at 7:30 p.m. ET, showcased the show’s knack for blending mundane humor with heart, solidifying its status as a fan favorite—now set to return with a new season on Hulu later this year.

You can find King of the Hill on Hulu HERE, but strangely, the show has been missing from some sites selling seasons of the popular show like Amazon Prime Video.

Fans have fresh reason to celebrate: Hulu confirmed in January 2023 that King of the Hill is reviving for Season 14, its first new episodes in over a decade. Production wrapped in October 2024, with a 10-episode season penned by returning and new writers, per the Writers Guild of America. Mike Judge and Greg Daniels will executive produce alongside showrunner Saladin Patterson, with original cast members like Judge, Najimy, Adlon, Stephen Root, and Lauren Tom reprising their roles. The late Johnny Hardwick recorded a few episodes as Dale Gribble before his 2023 passing, while Brittany Murphy and Tom Petty’s absences remain unaddressed. Reportedly featuring an aged-up Bobby and a two-season order, the revival—slated for a possible summer debut—will pair with a 2025 Alamo Beer tie-in from San Antonio’s Alamo Beer Co., tapping into Arlen’s propane-and-beer spirit.

King of the Hill debuted on Fox on January 12, 1997, created by Mike Judge—hot off Beavis and Butt-Head—and Greg Daniels, a Simpsons alum. Centered on propane salesman Hank Hill, his family, and their Rainey Street neighbors, the show ran 13 seasons and 259 episodes until September 13, 2009, with four final syndicated eps in May 2010. A Top 10 fixture praised by Time as one of the “100 Greatest TV Shows,” it won two Emmys and nabbed seven nods, buoyed by guest stars like Ann Richards and Johnny Depp. After syndication on Adult Swim and FXX, all episodes hit Hulu in 2018 and Disney+ globally in 2022, fueling its cult following now awaiting its Hulu return.

The 100th episode aired as newspapers began fading—now closing at two-plus weekly, per Northwestern—and The Andy Griffith Show had ended 56 years ago today. Today, King of the Hill’s legacy endures, bridging past and present with its upcoming Hulu revival.
