200 Mbps Fixed Wireless Internet For $50 Is Coming to 16 Markets in 2018

Yesterday a startup called Starry announced they will expand from its current Boston location to Los Angeles and Washington DC this month. From there they plan to launch in 14 other markets throughout 2018.

“We take the privilege of being in your home and being your family’s ISP very seriously,” Starry CEO Chet Kanojia said in a release from the company. “From the way our customer care and installation team interacts with you, to our pledge to never throttle, block, or pick and choose what content you access, when we pledged to build a better internet, we meant it.”

The service will cost $50 a month and will offer up to 200 Mbps down. The best part is the company says there will be no contract, no data caps, and no hidden fees with their $50 plan.

According to Starry, they will offer “pre-standard 5G, point-to-multipoint fixed wireless technology.” End users will get a Wi-Fi hub that will connect to the network and create a Wi-Fi network you can use in your home.

Starry says they will expand to 14 additional markets over the next year including New York, Cleveland, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Denver, Seattle, Detroit, Atlanta, Indianapolis, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Miami, and Minneapolis.

As with all new technology look for this to hit major markets first as owners look to quickly earn back their investments in highly populated areas. From there look for this to roll out to more rural areas.
