There are a few groups that are making up the majority of Netflix DVD renters. The first group is those in rural areas who may not have access to the broadband access required to stream video. For this group, having new DVDs sent via USPS is a convenient way to always have new content in rotation.
According to Netflix spokesperson Annie Jung, the real hot spots for DVD rentals are on the coasts. For this group, access to internet isn’t the issue. It’s variety that they’re looking for. While the Netflix streaming service has about 6,000 titles, it’s estimated that the DVD rental subscription has over 100,000 titles.
For movie buffs, the option to rent a DVD from such a huge library means there’s a much better chance of finding an obscure title or a movie that isn’t available for streaming on one of the major streaming services. The DVD option makes it easier to get all the movies you want without subscribing to multiple streaming services with niche categories.
The DVD rental plan is also a great deal for those who want to see new releases without paying extra. Many new movies are available on DVD before they can be streamed. You can rent new releases on iTunes or Amazon Prime, or get them through your Netflix DVD subscription.
