A Warning to Any Cord Cutters Buying a New TV – Not All New TVs Are Cord Cutting Friendly

TVs have changed a lot in the last 10 years. Now it seems like they are once again changing as some companies are cutting out a very important part that cord cutters need.

In an effort to lower prices and compete with other companies some TV manufacturers, such as VIZIO, have removed tuners from their new HD TVs. This means you will not be able to plug in an antenna to your TV without some type of extra box.

Other TV manufacturers, such as TCL, have reconfirmed their dedication to offering tuners in their TVs. So there are a lot of TVs out there that still include them, but you need to make sure you pay attention.

What can you do if you get a TV without a tuner? You will need some kind of converter box. You could get an HDTV Digital TV Converter box with HDMI out like the one from Kormazi.

Or you may want to take this opportunity to upgrade to a DVR such as the Channel Master or Tivo that will turn an antenna into HDMI cable. This way not only do you get OTA but a DVR to record your shows.

Now if you are using a device such as Roku or Fire TV on your TV you may want to look at an HDHomerun or a Tablo DVR. These devices will stream your antenna to multiple streaming players on your home network.

So if you are buying a new TV be careful. Not all TVs are cord cutter friendly.
