How to Use a Pre-Paid Credit Card with DIRECTV NOW

A young woman is sitting in her kitchen and is loking at her receipts at home while using a smart phonePre-paid credit cards are a popular way to protect yourself online from having your bank account information stolen. Sadly though many streaming services do not accept them.

The good news is DIRECTV NOW will accept a pre-paid credit card, but you need to know what kind of cards are accepted. You need a pre-paid credit card that is able to make recurring payments. (Something not all of them are able to do.)

Not sure if your credit card makes recurring payments? Call the number on the back of the card, and the rep should be able to tell you.

If you have not purchased a pre-paid card read the back of the packaging carefully and if you have questions call the number on the package before you purchase it. I do find the cards that are refillable typically will allow recurring orders.

Most live TV streaming services do not accept pre-paid credit cards and only a few, such as DIRECTV NOW, will accept them. Others, such as Sling TV, have recently started to sell gift cards for subscribers who would rather not use their credit card online.

Be careful where you use your credit card online and be careful about what information you share online.

Does PlayStation Vue deal with the same thing with not allowing prepaid credit cards?

Another alternative to providing your credit card number is IF you have BankAmericard, they will let you create a virtual card number tied to your account. You can set the max amount and length of time it’s valid. Then you can give that to the provider. It’s called ShopSafe and I’ve used it successfully for years.

Or don’t bother because after 9+ months of existing they still can’t provide a functional service that works as advertised, 72 Hour Rewind STILL is not functional on PC, Discovery Channel is now experiencing an Audio/Video glitch on Apple TV (but not PC, haven’t tested other devices), like you hit a bad scratch on a DVD or Bluray where the audio cuts out and the video gets all fragmented and they are estimated several DAYS (the 7th) before that is fixed, most unreliable service EVER.
