OutlanderSpeaking at the Gabelli & Company’s Annual Movie and Entertainment Conference, Starz’s CEO, Chris Albrecht, gave cord cutters a look into why many content companies are unwilling to give Netflix their content.

When asked about Starz’s past deal with Netflix, he responded, “For a very low price they got access to all our stuff and it devalued our wholesale and resale prices.” He went on to talk about how Netflix offered to keep Starz after their deal ended saying they offered “a ton of money because they really wanted our movies. If they had offered us as a tier on top of their basic package, we probably would have done a deal for a lot less money.”

Now a lot has changed since Starz left Netflix and released their own standalone streaming service in late 2015.

Starz was one of the first services to come to Amazon’s new streaming service that allows you to add additional streaming services to your Prime membership. Now, a few months later, it seems to be working out well for Starz as Albrecht went on to say that the Amazon deal was helping Amazon grow and achieve their OTT goals.

Starz CEO Albrecht went on to say that their deal with Amazon is helping Starz grow their OTT options, too.

Although we may never know all the details of the Netflix/Amazon/Starz deals, this statement from Chris Albrecht gives us a look behind the curtain.
