Channel Surfing Man

Channel Surfing ManWe have been getting a lot of questions about which new streaming players are coming out soon, and we can confirm that several new players are on their way.

Players We Know Are Coming Out

So far we can confirm two streaming players are coming out. First, we have known for some time that Amazon is working on a new Fire TV. Second, the Apple TV.

The New Fire TV

We have confirmed that a new Fire TV is on the way this fall or early winter. There is some confusion about whether it will be a higher end streaming player with 4K HDR or a less expensive 4K player to take on Roku’s mid-range players.

It is possible that Amazon will come out with two new Fire TVs, but we can only confirm one box at this time.

We do not expect a new Fire Stick to come out though. Amazon seems to be updating its players every two years and Amazon just updated the Fire Stick last fall.

The New Apple TV

We can confirm that Apple will release a new Apple TV with 4K HDR Dolby Vision and HDR 10 this fall or early this winter.

This new Apple TV will be the first 4K streaming player from Apple—something Roku and Amazon have offered for almost two years now.

Players We Expect to Come Out

The New Android TV Device

Cord Cutters News has talked to several sources who have told us that a new Android TV device will be coming out this fall. Now there is some confusion as to whether this will be a Google player like the Nexus because we are starting to believe that it will be just a Google-backed player.

As best we can tell Google is working with a third-party company to build an updated device similar to the Mi Box. Don’t expect anything special here but do expect it to likely be one of the first devices to officially offer the new Android TV User Interface.

Details are thin and this is the device we are least confident about but do have several good sources telling us one is in the works.

The New Roku Stick

Last fall Roku updated all of its players except the Roku Stick. Currently the Roku Stick is the oldest streaming player Roku sells new. It’s even older than the current Roku TVs on the market. Roku also just lowered the price of the 2016 Roku Stick to $39.99 on Amazon hinting that a new one maybe about to come out.

Details are still thin right now on the new Roku Stick and it could come out as soon as this fall or as late as next spring. What we do expect is that this new Roku Stick will likely be a 4K streaming stick.

Currently the only reason we would see to update the Roku Stick is to add 4K to it. The Roku Stick is the most powerful streaming stick on the market so unless you really want 4K I wouldn’t bother waiting for the new Roku Stick because we do not expect it to improve the speed as it already is a quad core streaming player.

There you go…all the new streaming players we know of or expect this fall or winter.
